January is almost over, and it’s official, the shorter nights will soon be making way for brighter evenings, a momentous calendar of sport and uncoincidentally, our biggest, and most ambitious event programme to date. With this in mind, we figured it might be time to present the exciting SGH schedule which lies ahead in 2023.

Our CONNECT membership series returns for its second instalment with an expansive programme. Highlights include an Ashes test at Headingley, our return to The Renaissance Club and a ‘Stay and Play’ visit to the wonderful Close House in the North East. The ethos around CONNECT has always been about designing a programme that allows our members to network, make connections and friends, whilst enjoying the very best Yorkshire and beyond has to offer in experiences involving food, drink and sport.

In April, we will be returning to a place we hold dear at SGH, Augusta National. For almost a decade, we have welcomed so many guests, golfers and former competitors to Augusta to witness those at the very pinnacle of their sport do battle for one of the greatest prizes in golf, The Masters. 2022 was our biggest, and arguably best, year to date at this iconic event. Our guests were able to enjoy some of the region’s top golf courses alongside some incredibly special days at Augusta National, where a late charge from current world number one Rory McIlroy wasn’t enough to stop early 2022’s form man Scottie Scheffler, who was on a relentless run. Off the course, our guests were able to unwind and enjoy the SGH host house, where they were treated to delicious gourmet food, live music and the company of their fellow travelling companions, along with one or two surprise drop-in golfing stars.

This year’s Formula 1 season looks set to leave no stone unturned, with so many questions left unanswered ahead of the 2023 season. Will Lewis Hamilton make it to a record breaking eight World Championships? Can Max Verstappen be stopped? Have Ferrari missed their best chance in as many years to add to their trophy cabinet? Soon, all will be revealed, and by the time we return to Monte Carlo for the Monaco Grand Prix, the title battle will be in full swing. Monaco is the jewel in the Formula 1 crown for so many drivers and fans, and we can’t wait to welcome our guests back to the French Riviera for our most exciting SGH Formula 1 experience to date.

Longer July nights in LS6 are synonymous with only one thing for sporting fans: Cricket at Headingley. And who can possibly forget Day 4 of the third Ashes Test, where we were treated to a test cricketing masterclass by the mercurial Ben Stokes.
The good news is, we get to do it all over again in 2023, when England and Australia battle it out at Headingley for the fourth Ashes test. We are excited to share that we have put together a three-day package including: two nights 4* accommodation, a day at The Ashes and a round of golf at one of the area’s best courses. This is a must for any keen golfer and cricket enthusiast, who wants to combine the inimitable Headingley atmosphere with a round of golf at one of Yorkshire’s finest courses.

Last year’s visit to The Open at St. Andrews was a personal highlight for the SGH team, and we can’t wait to see what the 151st edition has in store. From the 20-23rd July at Royal Liverpool, a course steeped in its own respective history, we look forward to another year of action at The Open.

As the summer draws to a close, the SGH team will be welcoming guests to two different European destinations to enjoy the two most prized team competitions in golf: the Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup.
Legacy. Heritage. Unrivalled history. Descriptions which are fitting to both this year’s host city and the most coveted prize in the Men’s team game. Our Ryder Cup experience will welcome guests to one of Italy’s finest golf courses, Marco Simone, which is only a short drive away from the global food, drink, and culture hotspot of Italy’s capital. Rome is steeped in culture and legacy, which is matched by few places worldwide, and provides a fitting hosted destination for a Ryder Cup which promises to be like no other. Will Team Europe gain revenge on their US counterparts on home soil?

In similar fashion to its male counterpart, this year’s Solheim Cup poses an equally titanic clash. Stacey Lewis’ Team USA hold a 10-7 lead over Suzann Peterson’s Team Europe, as this year’s Solheim Cup visits Finca Cortesin. The Andalucian golf club is a must-visit for any golf enthusiast, exploring the white-washed towns and roving hills of Spain’s south coast, a well-deserved suitor to play host to the Solheim Cup. Our guests will be able to enjoy the area’s restaurants, culture, and nightlife, whilst playing some of the region’s best courses and soaking up the very best of Solheim Cup action.

Across the channel, an equally anticipated Rugby World Cup returns to France for what many feel will be the most openly contested Rugby World Cup on record. The respective coaching teams of a number of leading nations have seen many a shake-up, which brings a fierce edge of familiarity to many age-old sporting rivalries. This, coupled with some glorious autumnal sunshine will round off a wonderful summer of sport with lots to play for.

Our flagship golf tournament, The Age Partnership Yorkshire Invitational, is returning to Ilkley Golf Club once again on the 29th and 30th of August, which will serve as the perfect extension to your August Bank Holiday weekend. We have some exciting announcements to share on this front, so keep posted for further announcements in the coming weeks.

We hope you enjoyed our little look forward to what’s coming from SGH in 2023. Of course, there is plenty more to share, so keep posted for further announcements.
