2024 ROUND UP
As we approach the close of 2024, it is a good time to reflect on what has been an incredible year at SGH filled with sporting experiences, CONNECT events, golf days, the Yorkshire Invitational and so much more. Join us as we look back at the key events and experiences that made 2024 a year to remember at SGH Events.
WM Open
For the first time ever, SGH headed to Arizona to watch the Waste Management Phoenix Open to experience the best hole in golf. It is dubbed the ‘People’s Tournament’, and with hundreds of thousands of people attending, there really isn’t a golfing event like it. The inaugural trip was a hit with clients who got to experience the thrill of the 16th and the party atmosphere all around the golf course. Phoenix is a golfing haven with 230 golf courses and with the likes of powerhouse golfing companies such as Ping and PXG being based out of the Arizona city, it is clear to see why people are attracted to this region in their droves. SGH is extremely excited to be heading back to Phoenix in February 2025 to experience the thrill again!
Augusta
Once again SGH headed to Augusta to provide bucket list trips for golfing enthusiasts. Our guests enjoyed the food and drink at the SGH Host House with the occasional drop-in from some well-known players: Ian Woosnam, Michael Cambell, Erik Van Rooyen, Danny Willet. Guests had the opportunity to play at some of the best courses: Champions Retreat, Palmetto, West Lake and The River Golf Club. In 2024, Scottie Scheffler showed why he is the best player in the world and won the coveted green jacket by 4 shots. The SGH team are looking forward to spending time with our returning clients and welcoming our new clients to the best experience in golf. We sold out in 2024 for the hotel and weekend packages so if your yet to experience the best major in golf, this could be the year for you!
Connect Memberships
The 2024 CONNECT program teed off in Scotland where clients enjoyed a stay and play at The Renaissance Club. The members battled against the Scottish elements to enjoy one of the finest links that Scotland has to offer. Next on the agenda was a tour of the Manor House Stables led by the legendary Michael Owen, followed by an afternoon at Chester Racecourse. It was the perfect opportunity for our clients to network and connect with like-minded individuals while enjoying a day at the races with the help of Owens race predications. The members dusted off their clubs yet again and made their way to the JCB club. They enjoyed a stay and play at one of the UK's most exclusive golf courses and host of LIV Golf UK with special guest and great raconteur ‘Chubby’ Chandler. The CONNECT members met up again in the summer sun, and a Texas scramble was held at Ilkley Golf Club which was followed by amazing food and drinks at Buon Apps. Golf clubs were swapped for shotguns with a wonderful day was had at the in the shining sun at the private Bilberry Estate. Members enjoyed the beautiful treehouse cabin overlooking the valley, Fewston and Swinsty Reservoir with a drink and BBQ food on the balcony in-between their shots. Our sharp shooters had the chance to experience a range of shoots from clay rabbits running the bushes to clay pigeons flying overhead which was rewarded with a cool head and a sharp eye. The penultimate event was evening entertainment at the luxurious Grantley Hall. We were thrilled to have the legendary Eddie the Eagle, who entertained us with his fascinating stories and great sense of humour! Then, the amazing Faith Tucker wowed us all with her extraordinary talent and powerful voice. The final event of the CONNECT calendar was the SGH Christmas party which was a night filled with festive cheer and a great end to a fantastic year with our CONNECT members.
Golf days
This summer, the SGH team were proud to collaborate with numerous partners to host a series of remarkable golf days, extending our reach from our base in Yorkshire to as far as Portugal. Each event was designed to leave a lasting memory for all in involved, whether it has been a corporate experience or supporting a range of great causes. Our season teed off in May at The Beefy Charity Foundation UK Challenge, hosted at The Shire Golf Club. It was an honor to support Sir Ian Botham and his charitable efforts, with the day raising vital funds for an important cause. In July, we brought our expertise closer to home, supporting Super League team, Castleford Tigers’ Annual Golf Day at Oulton Hall. Next up, SharkNinja chose the stunning Berkshire Golf Club to hold their golf day where we had a wonderful day facilitating the guests. The venue was breathtaking, and the guests were delighted with their personalised branded gifts on arrival. The event, aimed at raising money for the Variety Club, included exciting competitions like a Beat the Pro challenge with Ladies European Tour player, Carly Booth, an auction, and an insightful talk from rugby legend Chris Robshaw. In the week of the Yorkshire Invitational, AMT Auto capitalised on the wonderful tournament conditions of Ilkley Golf Course and the brilliant set up to host their golf day. AMT Auto’s Golf Day raised money for two worthy causes: Take Heart and MND association. The format of the event was a friendly Texas scramble with on-course fun such as ‘spin the wheel’ and the hysterical ‘Texas shambles’. In September, SGH travelled to host their first golf event in Portugal. We supported the Ronald McDonald House Charities Leisure Classic Event, at Vila Sol Golf Club in Vilamoura, Portugal. This 2-day tournament welcomed 160 golfers, and we offered players the opportunity to win a trip to the Masters with a hole-in-one challenge. We wrapped up the season with the first inaugural Tony Sadler Foundation Golf Day at Sand Moor Golf Club. From a saxophonist playing on the SGH Party hole to an auction and an interesting talk from Darren Gough, the event raised over £30,000 for Macmillan Charity – a heartfelt and fitting way to end the 2024 golf season.
Yorkshire Invitational
SGH Events Yorkshire Invitational 2024 was a resounding success. Ryder Cup-winning captain Thomas Bjorn hosted this year’s rendition at the stunning Ilkley Golf Course. The 2024 event took place on Tuesday, 27 August, and Wednesday, 28 August. The Pro-am was held on the Tuesday with a morning and afternoon shotgun start and had household names such as Nile Wilson, Gary McAllister, and Robbie Fowler teeing it up. The challenging weather on the Tuesday didn't damper players sprites with great golf on display and players retreating to outstanding food and drink, host Q&A, auction and a prize presentation in the players marque. With a brilliant day had by all on the Tuesday, it was time for hotly contested Alliance on the Wednesday with some legends of the game: Roger Chapman, DJ Russell, David Lynn and Stephen Dodd. Players enjoyed on-course refreshments while staying up to date with the live leaderboard. Following last year’s three-way playoff drama, it was set up to be a quality tournament with Matt Cort eventually emerging victorious in the alliance format. We would like to thank all our sponsors and highlight our key sponsors: Lamborghini and McLaren, Gusto, Dakota and Ilkley Brewery for their support and making the event so special. We are in the process of organising the 6th Edition of the event for 2025 and we are incredibly excited about next year's Yorkshire Invitational. Matt Cort and Liam Bond both have claimed two Yorkshire Invitational trophies so will 2025 be the year for a new winner or a charming third time for Cort or Bond? Announcements about the event will be released in the new year so follow our socials to be the first to know!
Golf Trips
Across 2024 we helped numerous clients travel across Europe, from Marbella to Vilamoura for awe-inspiring golf trips and holidays with magnificent golf and hospitality. We also planned several golf trips around the UK that were hosted by our SGH staff which were thoroughly enjoyed by our clients. In May, Simon Hurd hosted a group of golfers at the exclusive Loch Lomond and the wonderful Dundonald Golf Club where they were blessed with fantastic weather on the prestigious golf courses. David hosted a group of ten clients at Cleveland Golf Course and Seaton Carew which are two stern tests of golf in the North-East of England. Simon was called back into action in June to head to Ireland to host a trip for ten golf fanatic clients. They got to experience the beauty of the Southwest Irish Coast with Fota Island, Cork and Old Head Golf Course which are all a real test of coast. If you are looking for a golf break for you and your friends in 2025, contact us to start planning!
SGH Team
We have had a busy year at SGH ‘on and off the course.’ We are a competitive bunch at SGH and in 2024 we have tried our hand at some new sports with an office favourite being pickleball. We have introduced three new staff to make 2025 even better. Alison (Head of Finance) joined in January 2024 and has been a great asset to the team over the past year, with Max (Events and Marketing Assistant) and Joe (Business Development Executive) recently joining the team. As a team (new and old), we are incredibly excited about 2025 and what we have to offer from the Masters and the Yorkshire Invitational to the Ryder Cup in New York this September.
Thank you for joining us as we wrap up an incredible year at SGH Events! From unforgettable moments to meaningful connections, 2024 has been a year to remember. We’re proud of everything we have achieved together, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2025.
